CARLYLE, IL. (KMOX) – American Flags waived in a cold breeze along Carlyle Lake Wednesday as Marine Corporal Aaron Ripperda was taken to his final resting place.
A motorcycle escort led the way to St. Mary’s Cemetery where Aaron Ripperda was laid to rest next to his grandfather, who lived in Carlyle.
Aaron loved to sail on the lake and was said to be in the process of buying a boat.
High School students from Carlyle High along with families of veterans helped line the streets with flags.
The funeral motorcade made a pass near the dam and turned around in a boat dock where Aaron would often set sail.
Corporal Ripperda was killed in a training exercise in Nevada.
