The “Evil Dead” film franchise, about demonic possession and practically every form of graphic torture you can imagine, continues to sell well at the box office based on previous reputation and better than average reviews about this latest movie in the series. Over the weekend, the newest effort took in $26 million on 3,025 screens.
There was a tie for second place. “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” sold $21.1 million giving it a total of $86.7 million for two weeks in release.
“The Croods” finished with the same amount in ticket sales for the weekend, giving it a healthy total of $125.8 million for three weeks. Entertaining 3-D animation with excellent vocal casting remains a very potent genre at the ticket turnstiles.
The return of the original “Jurassic Park” from 1993 in 3-D took in a somewhat disappointing total of $18.3 million, good enough for fourth place. “Olympus Has Fallen” came in fifth this weekend with $10.1 million. For more on the weekend box office totals, click on the link below.
