Arch Hours Will Not Be Cut By Sequestration

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – While sequestration is having an impact on many government functions, it will be almost business as usual at the Gateway Arch this summer.

That’s according to National Parks Service spokeswoman Ann Honious who says that despite a five percent reduction in its budget, The Arch’s Memorial Day to Labor Day hours will not change.

She tells KMOX the budget cut was covered by not filling vacant positions so there will be a little less staff on hand. “We won’t be able to take care of things as closely as we would like to or as often and we will have to cancel some visitor services, park ranger talks, and programs.”

Honious said they will be hiring some seasonal workers and will be asked to take on a few additional duties.

“Some people are doing some different tasks or different responsibilities and there just aren’t as many of us as there usually are,” she said.
