Yelling ‘Slow Down’ to Pickup Truck Driver Results in Assault

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – Two Madison County men are charged in connection with the assault of an elderly Godfrey resident.

Police say the 77-year-old man and another person were working in the front yard of a home on Ridgedale Drive when a pickup drove by.

Both individuals yelled to the driver to slow down.  He stopped the truck, a passenger got out and chest-bumped and pushed the 77 year old, who stumbled into a ditch.

The passenger got back into the truck, it sped off.  But while the victim was inside the home calling police, the truck returned and drove through the man’s yard.

Sheriff’s deputies later found the men and arrested both.

The passenger of the truck, 19-year-old Tyler Bates of Alton is charged with battery and jailed on $40,000 bond.

The driver, 20-year-old David Hurley, is charged with criminal damage to property. He was released from jail on $5,000 bail.
