Property Tax Increase Measures Defeated in Metro East
BELLEVILLE, IL. (KMOX) – Voters in Illinois said no to a number of money requests by school districts. In O’fallon a property tax increase for District 90 was rejected by more than a thousand votes. In Fairview Heights a property tax increase for the Grant School District was also rejected, leaving the district to borrow money to get through next year. A 12 million dollar building bonds issue to build a new middle school was also turned down in the Smithton School District.
In Metro East Mayor’s races: Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert kept his job with 40-percent of the vote. He beat Joe Hayden in a close race. Edwardsville voters elected Hal Patton their new mayor. He won over Barb Stamer by 600 votes. In Roxana Paul Oller won the mayor’s race. In South Roxana Kenny Beasley won by a 31 vote margin. Lebanon voters elected Richard Wilken from a field of six candidates. In Caseyville Len Black beat George Chance. In Columbia, Kevin Hutchinson wins the mayor’s race. In Clinton County the mayor’s race in Carlyle went to challenger Mike Burton over incumbent Jan Fauke.
