Alton Write-In Candidate Wins Mayoral Race By 74 Votes

ALTON, IL (KMOX) – A write-in candidate has apparently won the Alton mayoral race by 74 votes.

Madison County Clerk Debbie Ming-Mendoza reports that Brant Walker received 1,853 votes to incumbent Tom Hoescht’s 1,779. A second write-in candidate, Jackie Morris, received 13 votes.

Walker was thrown off the ballot in January because of allegations that renters at a property he owns were behind on paying for city services. That forced Walter to take the write-in route.

Ming-Mendoza expects the results to be challenged. The numbers are scheduled to be certified April 23rd.
