Northwoods Baby Killed, Mom Hurt in Bus Stop Accident

NORTHWOODS, Mo. (AP) – Authorities say an 8-month-old girl was killed and her mother injured when a driver hit a bus stop in at St. Louis suburb.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says the driver apparently had some type of medical problem before losing control of his car and hitting the bus stop Monday in Northwoods.

The car struck 39-year-old Erica Hughes and her daughter, Alyja H. Hughes, who was in a stroller while they waited at the bus stop.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the driver’s niece said he is diabetic and may have had a seizure while driving to a dialysis treatment.

Erica Hughes and the car driver were hospitalized with serious injuries.
