Schnucks Recalls Ground Beef Sold at Fairview Heights Store

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOX) — Schnuck Markets, Inc. has voluntarily recalled ground beef sold between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. this past Sunday (April 21st) at its Fairview Heights, Ill. store at 625 Lincoln Highway. This precaution is being taken because pieces of black display paper may have made its way into the grind.

The recall includes all pre-packaged ground sirloin, ground round and ground chuck purchased during the indicated timeframe with a sell-by date of April 22, 2013. (Ground beef from the service case is not affected by this recall.)

According to the press release, a customer returned a package of ground beef containing pieces of black display paper Sunday evening. All ground beef was immediately removed from the meat cases; the grinder was cleaned and newly ground beef was put out for sale.

Any Fairview Heights Schnucks customer who purchased ground beef between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 21 may return the product for a full refund or exchange.

This is an isolated incident and no other stores are affected. There have been no reports of injury or illness.

Customers with questions may contact the Schnucks Consumer Affairs department at 314-994-4400 or 1-800-264-4400.
