Muny Turns Up The Talent For “Nunsense”
Get Breaking News First
When Mike Isaacson first took over as Executive Producer of The Muny, he said that one of his priorities was upgraded and more imaginative casting. With the announcement of the company for “Nunsense Muny Style!” playing July 1 to July 7, Isaacson proves (once again) he was serious.
St. Louisan and one of the regulars on the hit NBC series “The Office,” Phyllis Smith, has been cast in “Nunsense Muny Style” as Sister Julia, Child of God. Through her TV and film work, Smith has proven a envied ability to play a wide range of roles. However, playing a nun will be a first for Smith.
Broadway star and television & film actress Tari Kelly, who appeared at The Muny last season in “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” returns as Sister Mary Amnesia, truly an unforgettable role.
Returning to The Muny in “Nunsense Muny Style!” will be Beth Leavel as Sister Robert Anne. Leavel also appeared last season at The Muny in “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”
One of the most talented song & dance performers to ever grace The Muny stage, Lara Teeter, will play Father Virgil.
And in a casting move that should prove to be entertaining to say the least, St. Louisan and Broadway star Ken Page will play Sister Mary Wilhelm. There has been no comment so far from the Vatican.
“This is a crazily brilliant and wonderful cast,” says Mike Isaacson. Isaacson went on to note that Phyllis Smith once told him she would like to be The Muny’s new Mary Wickes. This show may give her that opportunity.
