Teens Abuse Prescription Drugs More Than Illegal Drugs

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Got drugs? No really, got any old or no longer needed prescription drugs? You can get rid of them Saturday as part of the DEA’s semi-annual Drug Take Back Day.

DEA diversion program manager Scott Collier tells KMOX that when it comes to abuse among teenagers, prescription drugs rank only behind marijuana.

“We know from varies surveys that for teenagers the most likely source of narcotic pills is the home or the unwatched medicine chest,” said Collier.

Collier says more people are abusing prescription drugs in the United States, than cocaine, meth, heroin, LSD and other drugs combined.

Drop off centers will be open throughout the area from 10- 2 p.m. Saturday. To find the location nearest you click here.
