ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A new attraction for the St. Louis Zoo.

The Zoo’s 42-year-old Asian elephant, Ellie, gave birth to a baby girl around 11 p.m. Friday.

The Zoo’s Curator of Mammals, Martha Fischer says staff has been preparing for the birth over the last two years.

The baby is the third for Ellie and the fourth for the father, Raja. Raja was the first elephant ever born at the Zoo.

Ellie and her new baby will not be on display today, but Zoo officials say more details will be released later.
