Golfer Judy Rankin To Be Inducted on Walk of Fame Today

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The St. Louis Walk of Fame grows by one star Monday.

World Golf Hall of Famer Judy Rankin is coming home for a ceremony in the Delmar Loop.

Walk of Fame creator Joe Edwards says Rankin began playing golf at age six at the Triple-A Golf & Tennis Club in Forest Park and went on to have a legendary career.

“The first lady player to win $100,000 in one season and that may sound like a small amount by sports figures today, the same way Stan Musial’s $100,000 contract sounded small compared to the millions people make, but that was huge at the time,” Edwards explained.

After retiring in 1983 with 26 pro tour victories, Rankin became a golf commentator on television.

The induction ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. today. The St. Louis Walk of Fame now has more than 130 stars.

“It just shows the drawing power of this great community and the memories that she had,” Edwards said.
