Two St. Louis Neighborhoods Ranked Among America’s ‘Most Dangerous’
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A new study by real estate website NeighborhoodScout.com names two St. Louis neighborhoods in its “25 Most Dangerous” in the country.
It is the corner of Cass and North Ninth Street that is the 22nd most dangerous neighborhood on the list. Analyzing FBI data, the website claims you have a one-in-fifteen chance of becoming a crime victim there over a year’s time.
“I haven’t heard of anything that would happen down there,” Gertrude, a passerby, said.
“I feel safe just because of who I am and who’s watching over me and protecting me,” another woman at the intersection said, “but as far as the community, yeah, it’s a little dangerous.”
Mayor Francis Slay was not available for comment. In the past, city officials have been critical of the methodology of crime surveys which give St. Louis low marks.
“I think it’s pretty safe,” a man at a nearby community center said. “We’ve been here for about a year-and-a-half, two years, and we haven’t had any problems at all.”
Ranking worse than Cass and North Ninth was the Fountain Park area of Delmar and North Euclid which NeighborhoodScout.com claims is the twelfth most dangerous neighborhood in America.
