Zoo Leaders Mull What To Do With Newly Acquired Property

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Zoo leaders are narrowing down the decision on what to build on their newly acquired Forest Park Hospital property.

The site will see some demolition soon, and S.W.T. Design Principal Jim Wolterman says parking will be an initial focus, as well moving administrative offices there — both moves, clearing space for attractions on the park-side of the highway.

He adds that a hotel is planned, as well as amenities important to both Dogtown residents and Zoo visitors, like perhaps a grocery store.

“We had a market analysts done within the area, so we’re looking at different ways on which we can really support not only the zoo and the zoo’s mission but also the neighborhood.”

To connect over the canyon of 64/40, Wolterman floats the idea of a pedestrian bridge and/or a gondola.
