ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Is it possible that pitcher Chris Carpenter’s career may not be over?
And not only that, could he make a contribution to this year’s Cardinals team out of the bullpen in a few months, as mentioned in some published reports?
Cards General Manager John Mozeliak confirms the former Cy Young Award winner has begun throwing, as he rehabs a nerve condition in his shoulder, “Given the time off, and being around the club in April, I think he got the itch. He’s feeling a little better now and definitely making very positive strides moving forward.”
ON KMOX’s Sports on a Sunday Morning Show, Mozeliak said it’s amazing, considering many thought in mid-February that Carpenter may need to retire, due to the shoulder problem.
Mozeliak did not give a timetable for Carpenter’s potential return or what role he would serve on the pitching staff.
Mozeliak did say, “If he could wind up healthy, it could be a huge boost. It’d be nice to have him around, but it would be even better to have him contributing.”
