The President of St. Louis University is resigning and he picked a dramatic moment to make the announcement.
Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena, Father Lawrence Biondi was honored for his 25 years at the helm of the midtown university.
To practically everybody’s surprise, Father Biondi announced that, with the blessing of the board of trustees, he’s stepping down.
A search for a successor begins this Fall.
Father Biondi says he’ll stay as long as he’s needed and he’ll be happy to help make it a smooth transition.
Recently, faculty and senate groups protested against what they called Biondi’s autocratic and heavy-handed management style.
Supporters say that in his 25 years at St. Louis U., Biondi took a good university and made it great. . .and raised a billion-and-a-half dollars for the school in the process.
