County Zoning Commission Votes Against Proposed Walmart Market

CLAYTON, MO (KMOX) – St. Louis County’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted Monday night to not recommend a Walmart Neighborhood Market be placed in South County.

Commission chairman Wayne Hilzinger said the area is currently zoned for small stores and Walmart wanted it to be re-zoned to allow for more traffic and more parking.

“Basically, we would looking for a more low-usage of the property, not a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week grocery store. We were looking for more neighborhood-type business uses,” he said.

Now the commission will send a letter to the St. Louis County Council with their decision. The council can then decide to follow that recommendation or ignore it.
