ROCK HILL (KMOX) - The owner of Rock Hill’s The Book House, which is literally in a 160-year-old house, has until July to pack up her 300,000 books and move to make way for a bulldozer and an EZ Storage facility.
A competing store owner, Robin Tidwell, organized a rally to help The Book House out.
“It’s called The Book House which comes as you have a house with books,” said Tidwell, owner of All On the Same Page bookstore in Creve Coeur. “The history of the house goes back to, what, 1863?
Book House owner Michelle Barron is trying to raise $50,000 on crowdsourcing website Indiegogo to made a bid for the home but, more likely, to pay for her to move.
“People need to think about what they’re doing with our history, our culture. Looking back, things need to be preserved, not just tossed out,” Tidwell said. “The Book House is a great place. If I ever get to take a vacation, I could spend it there. Even though we have our bookstore, this is different.”
