SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn is asking the federal government to help 11 Illinois counties affected by last month’s flooding.

Quinn’s office said Thursday that the governor is asking President Barack Obama to declare 11 counties major disaster areas. If federal officials approve the request then those counties will be eligible for grants and low-interest loans.

Damage assessments teams found 41 destroyed homes and more than 760 with major flooding damage. About 80 businesses in the 11 counties were flood damaged.

The list includes Cook, DeKalb, Fulton, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, McHenry and Will counties. Quinn previously declared 49 Illinois counties as state disaster areas.
