ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Saint Louis University students and faculty will get a chance to sound off on what they’re looking for in a new president when they gather later today at a town hall forum on campus.
This is the first public forum since Father Lawrence Biondi announced his plans to retire last weekend.
The town hall forum begins at 3 p.m. at Carlo Auditorium inside Tegler Hall. Economics professor Bonnie Wilson is a spokesperson for the group sponsoring the open forum — Heithaus Haven – a blog site promoting the Catholic Jesuit mission of the University.
She says the meeting will start off by looking at the Catholic Jesuit Mission Statement of Saint Louis University and looking at the bylaws as they specifically relate to the president.
“Certainly we would anticipate some people will be seeking to discern if the next president should be a Jesuit or not,” said Wilson.
SLU’s bylaws now say any future president does not need to be a member of the Jesuit order.
Wilson says she expects much of the forum will be open for comments and opinions on what qualities the SLU community is looking for in a new president.
