ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - As heard first on the KMOX “Sports on a Sunday Morning” show, the Cardinals are placing pitcher Jake Westbrook on the disabled list.

“He just had a little elbow inflammation, and when he made that start in Chicago it just didn’t feel right,” said Cards general manager John Mozeliak.

He announced John Gast will be brought up from AAA Memphis to take Westbrook’s spot in the rotation.

Gast will pitch Tuesday night against the Mets.

Mozeliak said Westbrook has had an elbow injection, and they’re hopeful it won’t be a long stay on the DL.
