Wildwood Woman Pleads Guilty to Abandoning Newborn

CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) — A 21-year-old St. Louis County woman has pleaded guilty to child endangerment for leaving her newborn under a tree.

Kaitlin Norton, who was 19 at the time, is scheduled to be sentenced July 25th in St. Louis County Circuit Court. Prosecutors have dismissed a child abandonment charge.

Norton turned herself into police last February, days after her child was found bundled outside a home in the 100 block of Westridge Parc in Ellisville. A woman in the neighborhood told police she saw a blanket moving, and thought it was a litter of puppies.

The baby boy was taken into state custody in good condition.

Norton reportedly hid the pregnancy from her friends and family, but panicked after having the child in a basement of her boyfriend’s home.

Ellisville Police Chief Tom Felgate said on the day Norton was arrested that “she had been hospitalized with post childbirth issues.”
