Muny’s “Poppins” Will Elevate Expectations
When it opens at The Muny July 25th, “Mary Poppins the Musical” will make its Muny debut. It has played St. Louis before, first at The Fox and then at The Peabody, but never at The Muny.
Broadway performer and former Miss Illinois, Jenny Powers, will appear in the lead role of Mary Poppins. And for the first time in Muny history, a performer (Miss Powers) will fly out over the Muny audience courtesy the high-flying magicians of a company in Louisville called ZFX Flying Effects. If this production keeps with the script of previous Poppins companies, Powers will fly off at the very end of the show.
ZFX has a lot of experience with this type of challenging special effect. They work with corporate and movie clients around the world. In the realm of theater, ZFX has worked with productions of shows like “Wicked” and “Peter Pan.” They have an outstanding safety record.
Muny President Denny Reagan and Executive Producer Mike Isaacson have promised innovation and new excitement out at The Muny. With “Mary Poppins the Musical,” which will run for 9 performances July 25 to August 2, they are demonstrating that the sky is the limit.
