ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There’s a bright new tribute to the late Stan “The Man” Musial in downtown St. Louis.

Gateway Greening’s Leon Zickrick says to check out their plantings on Market Street near Kiener Plaza, “On the ends of the median there are number sixes to represent Stan. The plantings are red and white and green. It’s going to be nice.”

Zickrick says twenty master gardeners and more than fifty volunteers took part in Saturday’s effort, “They put six trellises right in the middle. We’ve got red Mandevillas growing off those. We’ve got red and white Angelonia, Begonias, and Impatiens.”

Executive Director Mike Sorth says, “Each year Gateway Greening maintains this centerpiece for downtown St. Louis through our devoted volunteers and through donations from appreciative donors. Stan the Man was a centerpiece for the St. Louis community, and what better way to honor him than to beautify the center of our city with Cardinals colors and his beloved #6.”

This is the ninth year for Gateway Greening’s beautification.
