MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KMOX) – Some area parents who fear their children may be using illegal drugs now have a chance to have them tested without being arrested.
The free testing is being offered to children between the ages of 12 and 17 who live or go to school in Maryland Heights.
“We’re not going to barge into the room and arrest the child,” Maryland Heights Police Chief Bill Carson said.
Instead, Carson says, staff from Lakeside Center will provide parents with resource materials and offer options.
“We want this to be an early intervention and we want to be able to offer help to families maybe before their child goes any further down that path,” the chief said.
The drug testing begins Tuesday night and will be offered each Tuesday until further notice. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (314) 615-7900.
