MT. OLIVE, IL (KMOX) – No injuries have been reported after what authorities are unofficially referring to as a tornado in Mt. Olive, Illinois Monday night.
Mt. Olive Police Chief Ryan Dugger says it happened at about 10:30 p.m. last night, leaving hundreds without power and ripping roofs off Main Street shops.
“One in which the actual top section of the building had actually collapsed on Main Street,” he said. “We had a vehicle that was overturned on its top.”
Dugger says the Emergency Management director will decide for sure if it was a tornado that hit the town when he surveys damage later in the day.
“Drive around, assess all the damage, check with some of the different residences that have some severe damage, make sure there weren’t any injuries or anything,” he said.
