Thieves Stole Library Cards to Support Drug Habit

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Charges have been filed against two men who allegedly stole St. Louis County library cards, checked out CDs and video games, then sold their rented goods for drug money.

John Kannady, 24,of Kirkwood, and Kavon Porshahidy, 31, of Affton, were charged earlier this month with felony theft. Bond was set at $10,000 for both men.

St. Louis County Police say the thefts happened between August 2012 and January 2013.

Library spokeswoman Jennifer McBride says they made off with about six hundred dollars in library property from two South County branches.

“Its a very rare occurrence,” said McBride. “I been with the library system for six years and I can’t think of another occurrence like this.”

Porshahidy and Kannady sold the items to support their heroin habits, according to a court document.
