Scott A.F.B. Losing Air Wing Commander

MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) – The commander of the primary air wing at Scott Air Force Base is leaving for an assignment at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington.

Col. David Almand took over as commander of the 375th Air Mobility Wing a year ago, in May 2012. Scott Air Force Base is about 25 miles east of St. Louis. The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/129SNC7) that Almand’s change-of-command ceremony is scheduled for June 14.

Almand is the incoming commander of the 89th Airlift Wing. But he says it’s sad to leave southern Illinois. He calls Scott Air Force Base a “national treasure.”
