ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — The St. Louis area finishes in the bottom half of a national survey of most physically fit cities in the country.
According to the American Fitness Index, compiled by the American College of Sports Medicine, St. Louis ranked 31 out of 50. But “they were 32 last year, so it was a slight uptick,” said Georgia State University professor Walter Thompson who crunched the numbers.
St. Louis scored high marks for our number of golf courses, dog parks, baseball diamonds, swimming pools and required PE classes.
But got low marks for our bad eating habits, high percentage of smokers, obesity rate, diabetes rate, cardiovascular disease and a low percentage of public transportation use, walking and bicycling to work.
The Index ranked Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota the most fit metro area in the nation.
