ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Forecasters are predicting strong storms throughout the day on Friday, but the system doesn’t look quite as dangerous this morning, as it did yesterday.
Meteorologist Dean Davore says St. Louis area residents will see downpours, hail and high winds throughout the morning with even more severe weather threats later in the day.
“The late afternoon, say 5 o’clock until about 10 p.m., is the most likely time when St. Louis could receive a tornado,” says severe storm expert Mike Smith.
Smith says there is a 30 percent chance local residents will see tornadoes in the area Friday evening. There is a very high risk for tornadoes between Joplin and Oklahoma City.
St. Louis residents are more likely to see hail and heavy rain that may result in dangerous flash flooding, according to Smith.
A flash flood warning remains in effect for the St. Louis area until Saturday morning.
