ALTON, IL (KMOX) - A 329-foot jersey barrier flood wall has been erected in Alton, Illinois after flooding on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers forced evacuations in West Alton, Missouri earlier this week.

The Mississippi at Alton crested yesterday at 34.38 ft. but it will remain high for several days. Southbound US 67 remains closed at the Clark Bridge going into Missouri and motorists are being detoured to the Chain of Rocks Bridge. Northbound US 67 into Illinois is open.

The River Road is closed between US 67 to Clifton Terrace in Godfrey. Other major roads in the area are down to one lane and Riverfront Park is closed.
