ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is getting a day off after all.

He told reporters in the locker room Wednesday that he is dropping his appeal and will serve his one day suspension after bumping into umpire Mike Everitt during an argument Sunday.

Listen:

Molina said he needed a break after catching 14 innings Tuesday night, otherwise he wanted his appeal heard.

Tony Cruz will replace Molina for tonight’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny spoke about the suspension on his show on KMOX Tuesday. He said, then, backup catcher options include: Daniel Descalso and Ty Wigginton.
