A one, two punch atop all of Major League Baseball are the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds. They hold the No. 1 and No. 2 spot respectively in this week’s CBS Power Rankings.
But this shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Cardinals hold the best record in baseball (38-20) and are 7-3 in their last 10. The Reds, 2.5 games back of St. Louis, are one of only five teams with 36 wins or more and are 10-5 in their last 15 contests.
The dominance of the NL Central can be backed up by looking at their winning percentage against all other divisions. This division holds highest winning percentage in 2013 against teams from outside their division. The Cardinals, Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers are, for instance, a combined 16 games over .500 against the NL East and five games over .500 in interleague play.
Even the Cubs are keeping up with the rest of the division. They jumped seven spots from last week to No. 21.
