EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – It’s happened again. About 6,000 credit cards are reported stolen from the city of Edwardsville.

The city says that it’s believed that most of the cards were swiped for tickets at the city-owned Wildey Theatre in downtown Edwardsville. Cards used to pay utility bills, ambulance runs, municipal courts fines or police department fees are not included.

The police department says:

“The City has been assured by our credit processing firm that steps have been taken to prevent future intrusions into their system.  Although we remain hopeful this breech is not serious, city officials feel it necessary to advise the public of this incident, without delay.  If you have conducted any business with the city by credit card, we strongly suggest you contact your card provider (frequently your bank) and monitor your account records and purchases closely.”
