One of the most hotly debated topics in baseball right now is whether or not MLB should implement instant replay.
Previously, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny wasn’t sure if it would be the best thing for baseball. After a rally-ending blown call against the Reds, Matheny is changing his tune.
During Saturday’s game, the Cardinals had two on and two out in the top of the ninth when Carlos Beltran hit a ground ball to deep third. Reds’ third baseman Todd Frazier fielded it and threw to first, with his throw pulling Joey Votto off the bag. First base umpire Phil Cuzzi called Beltran out and the game was over.
Although Matheny came out to argue the call, Cuzzi was already leaving the field.
“I get it that they’re in a tough spot,” Matheny said. “You just want the right thing to happen.”
After dropping game two of the series 4-2, the Cardinals bounced back and won in extra innings Sunday night, 11-4. The Cardinals will face the New York Mets for a three-game series, starting Tuesday.
