ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Business owners and neighborhood residents gathered Friday evening for a benefit barbecue to raise money for the families of the victims from Wednesday’s triple murder-suicide on Cherokee Street.

Cherokee Station Business Association Board Member Jason Deem says the killings are not a reflection of the area, which he says is very safe.

“We’ve got all new incredibly bright street lights that are on the street,” Deem says. “We’ve got a really strong community that looks out for each other. We’ve also got a great working relationship with the police.”

Deem says Cherokee Street is still a good place to live and do business.
