The newest film in the Superman franchise has proven to have formidable powers at the box office. “Man of Steel” sold $125.1 million its opening weekend, making it the second biggest opening of 2013, behind “Iron Man 3.” It was also a new record for a film opening in June. “Man of Steel” is viewed as having one of the smartest marketing campaigns of any film scheduled for release this year.
The new Hollywood buddies movie about the Apocalypse, “This Is The End” starring Seth Rogen, James Franco and a bunch of their actor friends, came in second last weekend scoring $20.5 million. It garnered surprisingly strong reviews.
The clever but not always compelling “Now You See Me” was seen by enough people to take in $10.3 million over the weekend in its third week in release. In its fourth week, “Fast & Furious 6” took in $9.4 million, giving it a total of $219.6 million for one month in exhibition.
The odd movie about the United States becoming lawless once a year took in $8.2 million, good enough to finish in fifth place. For more on all the weekend box office statistics, click on the link below.
