ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) on Tuesday became the first sitting member of Congress to endorse Hillary Clinton for president.
“As I look at 2016 and think about who is best to lead this country forward, I’m proud to announce that I am Ready for Hillary,” McCaskill is quoted as saying in a statement posted at ReadyForHillary.com, a political action committee aimed at supporting the former secretary of state and senator’s 2016 bid for president.
While many have speculated about Clinton’s future ambitions, she has yet to announce she will run for president in 2016.
“Hillary Clinton had to give up her political operation while she was making us proud, representing us around the world as an incredible Secretary of State, and that’s why Ready for Hillary is so critical,” McCaskill said in the statement.
McCaskill endorsed Clinton’s opponent, then-Sen. Barack Obama, in the 2008 Democratic primary.
