ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Earth City-based Express Scripts, the nation’s largest pharmacy benefits manager, plans to add 1,500 jobs at an average salary of $65,000 at what will be its expanded headquarters in St. Louis.
President of the St Louis County Economic Council, Denny Coleman, told KMOX News the company wants to start construction on a $56 million, 220,000-square-foot expansion at its North St. Louis campus early next year and be done by early 2015.
It will, however, all depend on state and local tax incentives. Coleman said county policy is to give a break on new taxes that would be generated, no more than 50% of the taxes on personal and real property, and a partial sales tax exemption on construction materials. Incentives will be first introduced to the St. Louis County Council Tuesday evening.
Coleman said the kind of jobs that will be added include everything from entry level jobs to high-level administrators.
“When you add in the 1,500 jobs that Express Scripts will be creating with the prior announcements by Charter, Boeing and Monsanto this second quarter of 2013 has just been a blockbuster of economic development news for the entire region,” said Coleman.
