Man Gets 33 Years in Prison for Alton Death

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A 21-year-old Missouri man was sentenced to 33 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in a 2011 shooting death in southwestern Illinois.

Nigel Generally of Berkeley, Mo., pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in April.

He’s one of the three people who were accused of killing 23-year-old Tyler Hoppe, who died at a hospital after he was shot in his vehicle outside his Alton home.

Generally had faced up to 40 years in prison and apologized in court.

Two others are charged in the case and are awaiting trials.
