WASHINGTON D.C. (KMOX) - The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a proposal to name the new Mississippi River bridge in St. Louis the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.

One proponent of the plan is Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville.

“You can’t get much better than Stan Musial as far as a person who, you know, did his profession well, served the community well, was faithful to his church, and a veteran,” Shimkus said. “I think he epitomizes what we would like in Midwestern values so I think it’s good.”

Shimkus says the measure is expected to pass the House and then win fast approval in the Senate. The name should be in place by the time the bridge opens to traffic.

“You never know until you hear from some other folks but if they can’t like Stan Musial, I don’t know who they can like,” he added.
