Underground Explosions Clear Downtown St. Louis Building

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – A series of explosions outside the US Bank Plaza building in downtown St. Louis prompted the evacuation of several hundred people Tuesday.
Authorities say the initial explosion, which happened just before 5 p.m., came from an underground electric vault on 7th Street in between Locust and Washington across from the St. Louis Convention Center.
Firefighters say they had to wait for Ameren Missouri to shut down the power to the building before they could go underground and fight the fire.
There are no reports of injuries from the explosions at this time, but some people were stuck in the elevator inside the building.
The cause was not immediately known, but construction work has been underway at the site.
One US Bank Plaza is one of the largest office buildings in downtown St. Louis.
