ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A three-year-old child was ejected from a vehicle, just before 3 p.m. on Thursday, when the driver of the car the child was in sped through a traffic signal at Broadway and Marceau and hit several vehicles.

St. Louis Police say the child is in critical and unstable condition.

Police say a St. Louis County Police Officer was sitting in his squad car at Broadway and River City Casino, on the city/county line, when he saw the vehicle, a silver Ultima, speeding past him on Broadway.

Police say the officer began pursuit after the suspect, trying to stop him, but the driver of the Ultima continued to speed off. At that point, the officer disengaged pursuit, but says he saw the vehicle drive through the intersection, violating the traffic signal, and crash into several vehicles.

EMS was called to the scene to treat the injured.

The suspect was taken into custody.

Police say the three-year-old child was not in a car seat at the time of the crash.
