Nixon Not Giving Up Taxpayer Bought Plane Anytime Soon

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) — Governor Jay Nixon does not foresee parking his plane in the hangar and taking the bus — just because of a critical audit released this week.

Auditor Tom Schweich is criticizing the Highway Patrol’s purchase of a brand new Beechcraft for $5.5 million, saying the state’s current airfleet is under-utilized.

During a stop in St. Louis Governor Nixon reacted this way:

“I think it is extremely important, as every governor before me has, to more about the state. If I was talking about what I’m talking about here, taking questions in Kansas City, you’all won’t be there.”

He added that if the Missouri Highway Patrol felt the legal purchase was necessary, he won’t disagree.

A Republican state senator has slammed the Governor for using the plane just one year after making deep cuts to school funding.
