MITCHELL, Ill. (KMOX) – West Nile Virus is now in Madison County Illinois.
Health officials have found the first mosquito pool to test positive for West Nile Virus. The mosquito batch was found in Mitchell Illinois, just outside Granite City.
Mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile have also been found in St. Clair and other counties to the north.
Last year Illinois health officials reported the second highest number of West Nile Virus human cases in state history with 290 residents. There were 12 deaths.
