Arnold Grandmother Sentenced For Drunk Driving Death

ARNOLD, Mo. (KMOX) – An Arnold grandmother whose drunk driving led to the death of her 19-month-old granddaughter on July 4, 2011 was sentenced to more than a dozen years in prison Friday.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce said in a tweet that her office had sought a 20-year sentence for Theresa Fortner, 47. She was sentenced to 12.5 Friday.

Fortner had a blood alcohol level of .22 when she crashed her car as she exited the Loughborough exit from northbound I-55 that morning.

Police say her car hit a street, house, tree, and fence before it flipped over into a second tree.

Investigators said the black box from Forner’s Toyota Camry showed she was going 69 miles per hour and never hit the brakes when she crashed.
