our earlier story:
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Three people are dead, following an apparent murder-suicide in south St Louis.
Lt. John Green, the commander of the police department’s homicide unit, says investigators believe a 35-year-old father shot and killed his 26-year-old spouse and a 3-year-old child, then turned the gun on himself in an apartment in the 3400 block of Tennessee in the Benton Park West neighborhood. The woman and child were shot multiple times in the head.
The victims only lived in the apartment for 3 days, police say, and officers have not been able to notify family members.
There were no signs of forced entry. The bodies were discovered by a landlord who opened the door with his own key. He became suspicious when the male victim did not show up this morning to do a grass mowing job for him.
Police say a record check showed a history of domestic violence in the family. A report made in May by the woman says the man had attacked her with a tire iron.
Lt. Green says we may never know what prompted this weekend’s violence, “It didn’t have to end this way. They could’ve gotten help, or maybe just left the child alive. But Dad killed everybody, including himself.”
More details to follow when they become available.
