FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (AP) - Fort Leonard Wood officials are planning a town hall meeting to discuss a reduction in force.

Tuesday’s event at the south-central Missouri Army post is open to the public and will include a question-and-answer session. Budget issues and an upcoming civilian furlough also will be discussed.

The U.S. Army announced plans last week to cut the number of personnel at the post by 885, with the breakdown between civilian and uniformed positions still to be determined. Those cuts are part of the Army’s plan to trim forces by 80,000 soldiers over the next several years.

An earlier plan had looked at cutting as many as 3,900 personnel from Fort Leonard Wood. Army figures showed the post with about 6,000 personnel in 2012.
