ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOX) – The St. Charles Police Department has charged the suspect who stole from an elderly woman at Wal-Mart.

Tracy Mechelle Jennings, 43, of St. Peters, Mo., has been charged for the robbery that occurred Friday around 6:30 p.m.

Jennings and a black male approached the 83-year-old victim, offering to help the victim locate the items she wished to purchase.

Jennings told the black male to wait in the car before assisting the victim with her shopping. After helping the victim put her bags in the car, Jennings stole the victim’s wallet from her purse.

The wallet contained several hundred dollars, the victim’s driver’s license and several personal papers, police say.

Jennings left the scene in a vehicle with the black male.

Police say the black male was identified as not being involved in the theft.

Security footage showed Jennings taking the wallet of the purse while the victim was reaching into the back seat to get the can of beans to give to Jennings.

Police did not release the victim’s name.
