ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A young boy is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the head while riding around with his father in north St. Louis.
According to police, the boy was a passenger in an SUV when he was shot by a passenger or passengers of another vehicle around 3:35 a.m. Wednesday.
The boy’s 42-year-old father, an 18-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were also in the car. The child was the only person injured.
Captain Michael Sack says none of the three survivors seem to know why they were fired upon, but says the boy’s father has a criminal record.
“Based on the criminal history of the father, there’s a history of narcotics violations, and the driver, who has a recent weapons violation, it’s possible that they were the intended target,” Sack says.
The boy was rushed from the patrol headquarters to a hospital as investigators searched the vehicle.
Parts of Goodfellow north of Interstate 70 were closed early Wednesday as police investigated the shooting on Goodfellow near Laura.
The only description of the suspect’s vehicle is that it was either blue or black.
Sack says there are no charges pending against the father or the other two survivors in the car. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
